With fake freckles, you can conjure up freckles in an instant and wonderfully accentuate your natural complexion. It perfectly completes a pretty summer make-up and is also a great way to contour your face and thus emphasize your natural facial features. Here, I'll show you how to easily apply freckles with simple tricks and tools.
What Are Fake Freckles?
Fake freckles are artificial freckles, i.e., those that are only applied with make-up or self-tanner & co. to the skin.
Why Are Fake Freckles Trending?
Fake freckles are a popular beauty trend for a fresh look. They perfectly complete your summer look and immediately add freshness. They are also a great hack for gently contouring and defining the face. In addition, freckles are very easy to apply.

What Products Are Suitable For Fake Freckles?
For fake freckles, there are various methods and ways to apply the freckles. There are special Freckle Maker Pens that have a particularly natural brown tone and thus come closest to real freckles.
At the same time, the texture of Freckle Maker Pens can be easily built up and, if desired, intensified in some places to really create the impression of natural freckles.
Alternatively, you can also use eyebrow pencils or eyeliners – but make sure to choose a natural brown tone that matches your skin tone. At the same time, the texture should not be too intense and easy to build up. It is also important that the freckles do not smudge too quickly – especially if you want to apply a little bronzer or blush over them.

Applying Fake Freckles: Step-by-Step Guide
- Apply freckles punktuell with a Freckle Pen or other pencil to the desired areas. (Preferably on the nose, cheeks, forehead – letting the dots fade outwards)
- Don't think of a specific pattern, real freckles are also wildly mixed up and you can perfectly implement that here.
- Lightly tap the dots with your finger to gently blend them and thus create a natural-looking result.
- Depending on the pen and texture, you can press differently to vary the freckles and create a natural look.
- Afterwards, you can apply bronzer, highlighter, and blush to complete your sunkissed look.
Fake Freckles with Self-Tan
But you can also imitate freckles with self-tan. Here, however, it is a bit more difficult to apply fake freckles, as the self-tan texture requires some practice. But the fake freckles last for several days.
- Clean and thoroughly remove make-up from your face beforehand. There should be no make-up products, SPF or similar still on the face. The skin should be clean and dry so that the self-tanner can absorb evenly.
- Put a small amount of self-tanner on a make-up brush or a new toothbrush and dab (or spray) irregular dots on your nose and cheeks. Make sure to choose different sizes and distances so that the freckles look as natural as possible.
- For more naturalness, gently press the fresh dots with your finger or a make-up sponge. This makes the freckles softer and blend better with the skin.
- Let the self-tanner work according to the package instructions – avoid sweat, water and touching the treated areas during this time.
- Afterwards, carefully wash your face. Your fake freckles look is ready!

Should your fake freckles have turned out too dark, you can treat them with a little micellar water to soften the result. Alternatively, you can cover them with a little CC cream.
Fake Freckles with Henna
Another popular method is fake freckles with henna. Here, small dots are applied to the nose and cheeks with a henna pen or a fine tip, which, after an exposure time of several hours, leave a natural tan on the skin.
Unlike make-up, henna freckles last for several days and often look particularly authentic. However, henna should only be used on skin that tolerates it well, as it can cause irritation or allergic reactions on sensitive skin. It is also important that you only use henna suitable for the skin and avoid so-called "black henna", as this can contain harmful additives.
Which Color for Fake Freckles?
The right color tones are crucial for fake freckles to look natural. Generally, the freckles should be one to two shades darker than your skin tone and have a warm to neutral brown tone.

For fair skin, light caramel or honey tones are suitable, while medium to darker skin tones harmonize with slightly more intense brown shades. Avoid colors that are too dark or very cool, as these can quickly look artificial. For a particularly realistic result, it is also advisable to combine different color intensities – after all, even real freckles are not all equally dark.
How Long Do Fake Freckles Last?
Fake freckles applied with a pen usually last one day. Fake freckles with henna can last up to a week, while artificial self-tanner freckles can also last several days.
Common Mistakes with Fake Freckles
- too precise and perfect placement: Because irregular density and gentle blending of the dots are crucial for an authentic result.
- full-face make-up with freckles: Thick foundations should be avoided to prevent an unnatural appearance of the freckles. Instead, choose a light CC cream or only cover slight imperfections with a concealer.
- Letting textures dry: This can make the fake freckles appear too harsh and unnatural on the face. Instead, the dots should be gently blended immediately after application.
