A golden summer tan is the most beautiful accessory and for many it is one of the goals of the big summer vacation, along with relaxation. But how do you manage to get a tan particularly quickly? After all, you have to make the most of your one or two weeks of vacation. Here you will find effective beauty tips to get a tan quickly and beautifully!
Summertime is tanning time
Tanned skin has been considered the ideal of beauty in our regions for decades. While others in foreign countries long for a pale complexion, we want to soak up as much sun as possible.
But let's be honest: Many people really like a summer tan. With a tanned complexion, you look fresher, more rested and healthier than with pale skin.
We have seven effective tips for getting a tan quickly, so that also you can soon enjoy it.
The right preparation
To ensure that your tan looks particularly even and shines beautifully, you should prepare your skin well before going out in the sun. A rich peeling in the evening is ideal to remove dead skin cells.
Afterwards, use a rich body lotion to moisturize your skin and prevent it from drying out.
To avoid getting sunburned during your first session, you should slowly get your skin used to the sun . If you lie in the blazing sun on the first day of sun exposure, you are sure to get a painful sunburn.
It is best to use the first warm days of spring to soak up the sun for 15 to 60 minutes and then slowly increase the duration.
Support from within
Like so many beauty topics, nutrition also plays an important role in tanning. Certain foods can help you achieve a faster tanning effect and give your complexion a golden undertone.
Carrots, tomatoes, apricots and peppers contain beta-carotene , which promotes the body's production of melanin. Melanin is responsible for the tanning of our skin.
In addition to suitable fruits and vegetables, there are also dietary supplements that contain beta-carotene and are perfect for boosting your tanning process.

Protect well
For years there has been a rumor that sunscreen prevents the tanning process. But that's not true! Sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB radiation, but cannot prevent melanin production.
It is important to use sunscreen with an SPF that is right for you to protect your skin from painful sunburn and dangerous skin damage. This way you can also get a great tan without the pain and risks.
Which sun protection factor is the right one?
The sun protection factor is the factor by which the time you can spend in the sun is extended. For example, with sun protection factor 30, that would be 30 times longer.
How long you can stay in the sun without sun protection without getting sunburned, i.e. how long your skin is protected for, depends entirely on your skin type. Here you can determine which type you are based on the various characteristics and then choose the perfect sun protection factor for you.
Celtic type:
- Very light skin, often with freckles
- Red to red-blonde hair
- The self-protection time is about 10 minutes
- The skin does not tan
- Sun protection factor 50+ is recommended
Nordic type:
- Light skin, often with freckles
- Blonde to brown hair
- The self-protection time is about 20 minutes
- The skin tans only slightly to moderately
- Sun protection factor 30 to 50+ is recommended
Mixed type:
- Light to light brown skin, freckles are rare
- Dark blonde to brown hair
- Self-protection time is about 30 minutes
- The skin tans well
- Sun protection factor 30 to 50+ is recommended
Mediterranean type:
- Light brown, olive skin, without freckles
- Dark brown hair
- Self-protection time is about 50 minutes
- Skin tans quickly and deeply
- Sun protection factor 30 is recommended
Dark type:
- Dark brown skin
- Dark brown to black hair
- Self-protection time is about 60 minutes
- Existing tan does not increase
- Sun protection factor 20 is recommended
Black type:
- Dark brown to black skin
- Black hair
- Self-protection time is about 60 to 90 minutes
- Existing tan does not increase
- Sun protection factor 10 to 15 is recommended
By the way: If you use active ingredients in your skin care routine, you should definitely use at least SPF 30 on your face, regardless of your skin type. This is because some active ingredients such as vitamin C and retinoids increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun.
Choosing the right sunscreen
When it comes to sun protection, a distinction is also made between different UV filters. On the one hand, there are chemical filters that penetrate the skin and thus protect against UV radiation. On the other hand, there are mineral filters , also known as physical filters, which lie on the skin like a protective film.
Both filters have their advantages: Mineral formulas are considered to be very skin-friendly and are particularly suitable for pregnant women. Chemical textures are more resistant to water and sweat, among other things.
There are now also many sunscreens that contain a combination of both types of filters.
You also have a choice when it comes to texture! You can choose a classic cream or a mousse, foam, spray or sun oil. It all depends on which texture you like best and which one you can cope with best.

Help
Tanning accelerators can help you boost the natural tanning process, making them the perfect choice for you if you want to get a tan quickly.
Tanning accelerators contain special active ingredients, such as beta-carotene, which stimulate melanin production. This means you can enjoy a great tan more quickly and don't have to lie in the sun for ages.
The same applies here: When tanning , be sure to combine the accelerators with sun protection! This will ensure that your skin really gets a tan and doesn't burn. You can also choose from different textures here:

Fake Tan for a quick tan
The quickest way to get a tan is actually at home - without any sun. With self-tanner you can achieve a great tan within a few minutes or hours, depending on the exposure time.
You don't even have to lie in the sun for hours and expose yourself to UV rays. You can simply use your favorite self-tanner at home.
But why does it actually make you tan?
Self-tanners contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which reacts with the top layer of skin and tans the skin.
Here, too, you should make sure to thoroughly exfoliate your skin 24 hours beforehand and provide it with plenty of moisture. Also use some body lotion again directly before the tanning session, especially on joints and ankles, such as the elbows, knees and fingers.
Tip: Be sure to use a tanning mitt to ensure a particularly even tan.

Pay attention to the UV index
The UV index indicates how strong the UV radiation is on a given day and over the next few hours. You can easily check the current UV index in various weather apps and weather services.
You can of course use the UV index as a guideline as to when it is “worth it” to lie in the sun for a tan. And also when you should definitely apply sunscreen. (Although it is always best to apply it to your face!)
The index varies from 0 to 11 - but if the value is 3 or higher, you should definitely apply sun protection. This also applies if the sun is not visible at all and it is rather cloudy. The UV index can still be high!
In spring, the UV index is also usually significantly higher due to the sun's proximity to the earth. It is therefore important not to lie in the blazing midday sun on the first sunny day of the year. Instead, build up the sun exposure gradually and increase it gradually over several days.
The ideal place
In fact, there are perfect places to get a quick tan. One of these is on or near water and sand . The beach or pool are ideal!
Both sand and water reflect light, thereby enhancing the effect of UV rays and helping you tan faster.
The supposed argument that sun protection is not necessary in the shade is also incorrect. The sun's rays are reflected by the surroundings, so you are still exposed to UV rays.
In the shade it takes longer to build up a tan, but it should last longer.
Ensure longer durability
To ensure that your tan looks particularly beautiful and, above all, great for a long time after the tanning session, it is also important to give your skin the right care immediately afterwards.
Especially on vacation, nothing beats a long shower after a tanning session. Make sure to give your skin plenty of moisture - ideally with a rich shower gel and a suitable body lotion afterwards.
Suitable after-sun care is ideal for prolonging the tan and has a pleasant, cooling effect. In particular, care products containing aloe vera are particularly suitable for sunburn as they soothe the skin.
