Tubing mascara is considered the hottest product of the season and has already caused quite a stir on TikTok and other social media platforms. This new formula is said to make makeup removal significantly faster and easier – but what's behind this new trend? Find out what this tubing technology is all about and more!
What Does Tubing Mascara Mean?
Tubing mascaras use a special tubing technology in which the synthetic polymers wrap themselves around the lashes like small tubes. They provide length, volume, and definition without clumping.
What's more, the look is supposed to be particularly long-lasting, smudge-proof and waterproof – but at the same time, the tubing mascara can be easily removed in the evening with lukewarm water.
Benefits of Tubing Mascara
Perfect hold: Your lash look will last all day with this tubing mascara, while being particularly durable and water- and smudge-proof. Wearing mascara while swimming, exercising, or on a tearful day is no problem, and you can say goodbye to "panda eyes"!
Defined look: With the tubing mascara you can say goodbye to unwanted spider legs and clumped lashes.
Hypoallergenic formula: The technology is based on hypoallergenic ingredients, making it ideal for all allergy sufferers. (Please still perform a patch test before use!)
Quick & easy makeup removal: No rubbing, no complicated routine or special products – all you need to remove the formula is cotton pads, lukewarm water and about a minute.
How Tubing Technology Works
Tubing mascaras contain synthetic polymers, which are responsible for the special mascara technology. Polymers are chemical compounds made up of several macromolecules – which have also been used in hairspray and other long-wearing products. They are considered water-resistant up to higher temperatures, offer strong hold, and protect the hair from external influences.
The long-lasting effect ensures a perfect look all day long – without panda eyes or dark mascara shadows under the eyes or on the brow bone. The innovative technology is smudge- and water-resistant, so you can wear the mascara while exercising, swimming, and throughout the day without worrying about your eye look.

When applied, the polymers wrap around each individual lash like fine tubes, adding length and volume. The finish is exceptionally defined — no chance for clumps or spider legs.
Tubing Mascara vs. Waterproof Mascara
So what exactly is the difference between tubing mascara and waterproof formulas?
Even though waterproof mascaras can withstand many conditions, including sweat and water, the waxes they contain often react with the skin's oily film. This often results in those very annoying mascara marks on the eyelids or under the eyes.
Removing makeup with waterproof mascara is also a lot more complicated: To completely remove it from your lashes, you'll need an oil-based cleanser. But even with that, several cleansing steps are sometimes necessary to completely remove the formula. And even then, you might still have mascara residue from the night before under your eyes the next morning.
The tubing mascara is super easy to remove with just water and the process is incredibly quick.
How do you recognize a tubing mascara?
You can recognize many tubing mascaras by their name – often they contain "tube" or "tubing." But descriptions like smudge-proof or easy wash off also point to the popular tubing trend.
To be sure you're really looking at a tubing mascara, you can also check the ingredients. If you find the following terms in the INCI list, it's a tubing mascara:
Acrylates/Ethylhexyl Acrylate Copolymer
Ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer
Acrylic Copolymer

How Do You Apply Tubing Mascara?
Apply tubing mascara like regular mascara. Move the brush from the base of the lashes to the tip in gentle zigzag motions. Wait between coats and let them dry briefly before applying the next one.
How do you remove tubing mascara?
Regular and waterproof mascara are often difficult to remove. Sometimes, even after double cleansing, you still find mascara residue on your towel, or you wake up the next morning with mascara streaks under your eyes.
Not with tubing mascara: You can remove it completely in just one minute, without any harsh rubbing or special makeup remover.
Soak a cotton pad with warm water and gently press it onto your closed eye for about 30 seconds.
Gently pull the cotton pad from top to bottom over your lashes. As you do so, pull the polymer tubes off the lashes, and they will stick to the cotton pad. (The tubes may look a lot like eyelashes. But don't worry, this makeup removal method is very gentle, so you shouldn't lose any lashes!)
Dispose of cotton pads in the general waste and continue with your usual skincare routine.
Important: Always use cotton pads to remove makeup and dispose of them in the general waste. Polymers should not be disposed of in wastewater ; they are difficult to degrade and can re-enter our circulation as microplastic particles.
