The scalp is an important factor for healthy and shiny hair. According to many voices on social media, the right scalp care can even stimulate hair growth. But what is the truth behind the myths surrounding rosemary oil & co.? We get to the bottom of the current trends and have important tips for the ultimate scalp care!
Scalp care: 8 simple tips with a big impact
The focus of hair care is usually on the lengths and ends. The scalp also plays a crucial role in hair health and ultimately the appearance of the hair. Proper scalp care can promote hair growth and ensure shinier and more voluminous hair.
Would you like to try this? We have eight simple tips for you that you can easily integrate into your beauty routine:
Double cleansing
Double shampooing ensures that products and oils are thoroughly removed from the scalp and the hair shines beautifully. Many hairdressers have been using double washing for years.
Deep cleansing shampoo
You should only use this special hair care product rarely, otherwise you will put too much strain on your scalp and dry it out. The shampoo cleans your scalp particularly thoroughly and removes styling residues.

Be careful with dry shampoo
Only use dry shampoo every now and then and try not to apply it directly to the scalp. This can otherwise lead to buildup. It is also best to wash your hair the next day so that it is not subjected to unnecessary stress, as the sprays weigh it down.
Peelings and serums for the scalp
Serums can help you balance your scalp and, for example, compensate for increased sebum production on the scalp. There are also special serums that provide your hair with valuable nutrients and stimulate hair growth.

External circumstances
As is often the case with skin and hair, your lifestyle, especially your diet, can have a significant impact on your scalp. Stress, lack of sleep and an unbalanced diet can also have an impact on your scalp and hair.
Water and heat
Even tap water can have an effect on your scalp. There are special filters for the shower head that remove chlorine, limescale and heavy metals from the water. The filtered water is said to be much gentler on skin and hair.
Do not blow-dry your hair on the hottest setting and do not point the nozzle directly at your scalp. Also make sure to keep enough distance from your head - 20 to 25 cm is ideal.
Hair Oiling
Hair Oiling has been a hair care tradition in India for centuries and is considered an Ayurvedic healing method. The oil is not only massaged into the scalp, but also applied to the hair.
It is supposed to supply the hair and scalp with vitamins and nutrients and provide plenty of moisture. But the hair oiling method can also help with oily scalps: It is supposed to balance sebum production and thus counteract quickly greasy roots.
At the same time, the massage while oiling the scalp is supposed to stimulate blood circulation and hair growth.
When oiling your hair, it is particularly important to use a non-irritating oil. These include: olive oil, avocado oil, sunflower oil, argan oil, evening primrose oil, grape seed oil, shea butter, bergamot oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, almond oil, jaborandi oil and moringa oil.
Here's how: Massage a teaspoon of oil into your scalp and leave it on for about 20 minutes. If you wish, work the oil into the lengths and ends as well. Then wash your hair as usual. It's best to use it once a week.
Rosemary water
Rosemary water invigorates the scalp and, like hair oiling, is said to stimulate hair growth. At the same time, it regulates sebum and is said to counteract hair loss. It also relieves itching and dandruff.
Recipe for rosemary water
Ingredients:
10 g mint leaves
10 g rosemary leaves
250 ml apple cider vinegar
250 ml water
Chop the leaves and put them in a pot of water. Bring the mixture to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes over medium heat. Then let the water cool well and pass it through a sieve. Mix the liquid with the apple cider vinegar and then pour it into a spray bottle.
It is best to use it several times a week in the evening. To do this, spray the homemade water onto your hair and scalp and massage it in. Put a cap on overnight and wash your hair as usual the next morning.
Ultimate tips for oily scalp
An oily scalp can have various causes. Those who wash their hair every day in particular often have to deal with a never-ending vicious cycle. Many people think that they have to wash their hair so often because it gets greasy so quickly. But it is precisely the frequent washing that causes an imbalance in the scalp, so that it produces more sebum than usual.
It is therefore worth washing your hair less often and using a mild shampoo that is specifically designed for oily scalps. Do you still want to wash your hair every day because you do a lot of sport, for example? No problem! It is best to use a shampoo that is specifically designed for daily use.

Another tip for oily scalps is to exfoliate. There are many mechanical scalp scrubs that gently massage the sensitive skin and gently remove flakes and product buildup.
If you have an oily scalp, we would recommend a chemical peeling. Salicylic acid (BHA) in particular has a great effect on the scalp. You may already know the active ingredient from your skin care, as it is often used in products for oily to combination skin. It regulates sebum and gently removes dead skin cells. Both great properties that you can also use for your scalp!

Helpful tips for dry scalp
Dry scalp is often accompanied by unpleasant itching. In some cases, the skin is so dry that dandruff forms.
Many people tend to have dry skin and scalp, especially in winter. This is caused by the drying air from heating. But if you generally like to take hot showers, this can dry out your scalp a lot in the long run.
It is therefore particularly important not to use the highest setting when blow-drying and to keep the nozzle at a sufficient distance from the scalp.
The same applies for the sun: a long day at the beach can also put a strain on the sensitive skin on your head and dry it out. So make sure you use extra hydrating care products while on holiday.
In general, you can take a closer look at your skin care products once you have ruled out external factors. It may be that you are intolerant to some of the ingredients and that they have a drying effect.
So it's better to use a mild and moisturizing shampoo with a suitable conditioner for the length of your hair. Get inspiration from our product recommendations!

Effective tips against dandruff
Dandruff can occur on both oily and dry scalps, so take your skin type into account when determining the cause and treating dandruff.
If your scalp is otherwise dry, you should definitely not use an anti-dandruff product, but rather follow the tips from the above section against dryness.
Anti-dandruff shampoos have a drying effect and should therefore only be used once or twice a week , even if you have an oily scalp. A chemical peeling with BHA can also help here and get rid of the dry skin flakes.
In addition, dandruff can occur in individual areas or on the entire head. If individual areas look very flaky and different from the rest of the scalp, you should consult a doctor.
We hope our tips have helped you!
