Why should you take off your make-up?

You should remove makeup at night to allow your skin to breathe again. Otherwise, bacteria can form on the skin, which can lead to blemishes. Your eyelashes will also benefit if you remove the mascara in the evening. Otherwise, they can break off or even fall out.

In addition, it is important to moisturize your skin, especially overnight, and active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid can only develop their full effect if the skin has been properly cleansed beforehand.

5 different makeup removers

  • Micellar water: Here you will find various formulas that are adapted to your skin type. Micellar water dissolves even waterproof makeup and is particularly gentle on your eyes. Warning: You should always wash it off with water afterwards, as it contains surfactants.
  • Make-up wipes: The classic make-up remover remains the practical cleansing wipes, which are designed to remove everything in one wipe. But here too, you should wash your face again afterwards, ideally with a cleanser, to really remove all product residue. Unfortunately, make-up wipes only provide a rough cleanse.
  • Cleansers: Cleansers come in different formulas for different skin types. They not only remove makeup, but also rid your skin of dirt, excess oil and can offer other great benefits to your skin.
  • Cleansing oil: Cleansing oils are a sub-type of cleansers that are particularly suitable for dry skin and for removing oil-based make-up.
  • Double cleansing: A relatively new skincare trend that absolutely deserves the hype is double cleansing. In the first step, you use a cleansing oil or another form of oil-based cleanser that removes all oil products. In the second step, you wash your face with a second, water-based cleanser that thoroughly removes water-based makeup.

When should I remove my make-up?

You should take off your make-up before you go to sleep at the latest. However, you can also do it earlier in the evening, for example after you get home.

However, remember that you should clean your skin again after brushing your teeth to remove all toothpaste residue.

Should you remove your make-up before or after showering?

That's entirely up to you - you can remove your make-up before or after showering! You can also remove your make-up in the shower. However, you should note that cleansing oils should generally be applied to a dry face with dry hands.

How do I remove waterproof make-up?

  • Change your towels regularly and use one just for your face. This will prevent bacteria from accumulating and causing blemishes.
  • When using make-up remover, make sure that it is also suitable for the sensitive eye area so that mascara can be gently removed. Make-up remover formulas that are too irritating can irritate the eye area and your eyes.
  • Brush your teeth first before removing your makeup and cleansing your face. This way you can thoroughly remove any toothpaste residue that is not good for your skin.
