Face cleansing is the basis of skin care. It is considered the first step in the skin care routine and frees your skin of make-up, sweat and environmental pollution. At the same time, cleansing is very refreshing and prepares your skin for further active ingredients and facial care.

When should I cleanse my face?

Ideally, you should clean your face in the morning and evening. However, cleansing your face in the evening is much more important because this is when you get rid of the sweat, dirt, environmental pollution and even the day's make-up.

In the morning, cleansing also helps you wake up and frees the skin of excess sebum, sweat and any care residues from the previous evening.

How to find the ideal cleanser for your skin

You should adapt your entire skin care routine and your cleanser to your skin and skin type.

The optimal choice depending on your skin type:

  • Normal skin: You can use any type of cleanser.
  • Dry skin: It is best to choose a moisturizing formula, such as a cleansing foam, a Cleansing oil or a rich Cleansing Balm.
  • Oily skin: Here is a sebum-regulating cleansing gel ideal to counteract oily shine.
  • Combination skin: It is best to use a mild cleanser that is neither drying nor too greasy. Cleansing foam is a good choice.
  • Impure skin: Cleansers with peeling ingredients such as BHA and AHA cleanse your skin thoroughly and combat blemishes at the same time. Test whether you use the cleanser every day or just a few times a week.
  • Sensitive skin: Use mild formulations without perfume, alcohol, essential oils and other potentially irritating ingredients. Also pay attention to the pH value, which is ideally between 4.5 and 6.5.

3 valuable tips for using facial cleansers

  1. Use lukewarm water. Water that is too hot can dry out your skin, while cold water can irritate the skin.
  2. Use a separate towel for your face and change it regularly.
  3. A hazelnut-sized amount of the cleanser is usually sufficient.

Double Cleansing: The two-step method for great results

A special cleansing method has become increasingly popular in recent years: double cleansing.
The first step is to use an oil-based cleanser or makeup remover. This removes all oil-based residues, such as make-up and sunscreen, particularly thoroughly. There are also many formulas that are suitable for all skin types - even oily skin!

In the second step, you then use a water-based facial cleanser, which in turn removes all water-based products and thoroughly cleanses your skin.

Pore-deep cleansing with peelings

Under exfoliants most people understand a cream or lotion with fine particles that exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells and impurities. However, these are so-called mechanical peelings because they contain physical particles, such as salt crystals.

However, there are also chemical peels. These work with acids to remove dead skin cells and penetrate into the pores. They are therefore considered to be much more effective, especially if you want to combat enlarged and clogged pores. They are also applied as a serum or toner and are not washed off, so they can have a more targeted effect.

Mechanical formulas, on the other hand, are mainly used in body scrubs very effective and can counteract ingrown hairs or prepare the skin for the next self-tanning session.

Professional face cleansing

In addition to face cleansing at home, you can also do this in beauty salons. During these treatments, your skin is professionally cleansed, excess sebum is removed from the pores and impurities are treated.

Regular, professional cleansing can be particularly beneficial for oily skin and skin prone to blemishes. Once a month is ideal.
