AHA Exfoliant: The best products for glowy skin

AHAs are among the more well-known ingredients that are said to exfoliate your skin and improve its appearance. Here you'll find a great selection of AHA acid peels along with useful information and tips.

What is an AHA exfoliant?

The abbreviation AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acids. These are water-soluble acids that can be derived from natural substances. The most well-known AHAs in skin care are:

  • Glycolic acid: It is extracted from sugar cane and has the smallest molecular size, which allows it to penetrate the skin particularly well.
  • Lactic acid: Found in fermented milk, it's slightly milder than glycolic acid. It also has a moisturizing effect.
  • Fruit acids (e.g. malic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid): These AHAs are found in various fruits and often have a slightly gentler effect.

Product types with AHA

AHAs are contained in different products and differ in their texture and application.

  • Cleanser
  • serum
  • toner
  • masks

Benefits of AHA

  • Peeling effect: AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) help remove dead skin cells and make the skin more supple.
  • For the glow: An AHA peeling can make your complexion radiant again.
  • Against hyperpigmentation: AHAs can help lighten these.
  • At the first signs of skin aging: AHAs promote skin renewal and can thus reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They stimulate skin cells to produce more collagen and refine the skin's appearance.
  • For blemishes and acne: AHAs can clear clogged pores.
  • Moisture boost: AHAs, especially lactic acid, provide additional moisture to the skin.

AHA acids are suitable for many skin types, but especially for:

  • dry skin
  • mature skin
  • Pigment spots
  • dull complexion

How often can you use an AHA peeling?

You shouldn't use AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peels too often, especially at first. If you want to try a new product, start with once a week. Then gradually increase the frequency to a maximum of every other day.
