What is Glycerin?

Glycerin (glycerol) occurs naturally in our bodies and is a component of the skin’s own moisturizing system – it is therefore a natural moisturizing factor and humectant for the skin.

At the same time, you can also find it in many basic care products, especially in serums and face creams. However, glycerin is also an ingredient in shampoos, which provide the hair with a lot of moisture.

When should you use Glycerin?

Glycerin is ideal for dry to very dry skin. However, combination skin types and normal skin also benefit from the moisturizing properties of glycerin.

A glycerin serum is best applied after cleansing and toning. A face cream with glycerin is used as the last step in the skincare routine.

What are the side effects of Glycerin?

Even though glycerin is considered to be very well tolerated, the active ingredient can contribute to drying out the skin in high concentrations (from a glycerin content of 30%). Gentle, moisturizing formulas usually contain a glycerin content of just 3%.
